Black Line – January

Time trials

There was a good turn out for the time trials on Saturday morning and it was great to see some swimmers picking up county qualifying times.

Mini-meet

Well done to all those who took part in mini-meet round two on Saturday night. Some really tough races with 200 freestyle for the girls and 200 IM for the 10+ boys. Please don’t be worried or disappointed if your swimmer took a bit longer than others in their heat. For many this was there first attempt at this race and it takes a lot of guts and determination to complete either of the above. All completed their races and got some good licence times and many of the more experienced swimmers got some good PB’s. As a poolside team we were really pleased with how they all did and can see improvements in technique from the first round. It also allows John to see where he needs to focus the coaching as we move forward. By the last round in April we should see some significant progress.

Polite Request

Before you sign up your swimmer for a particular event be it mini-meet/open meets/club championships – PLEASE can you discuss what is involved with your swimmer and if you are unsure about their capabilities by all means chat with their coach. Once you have committed to an event they will be expected to swim what they have signed up for unless they are ill/injured or the coach decides they are not able to swim a particular event. We do not expect swimmers to turn up on the night and not swim a particular event because they don’t fancy doing it or worse for them because they didn’t know they were doing it and don’t feel confident.

More movers

Well done to Emma Leslie who has taken up a full time place at City of Peterborough. Well done also to Millie Steel who is trialing at Peterborough and even though she regularly informs me she is Soooo tired says she is absolutely loving it. Good luck to both the girls – a lot of hard work coming your way!

It is a great reflection on the club that we have such a high number of swimmers who move on to performance clubs and a real credit to John that he always has the swimmers best interest at heart when making the decisions to move them on – as a coach it would be very easy to want to hang onto to all your swimmers. Our swimmers are always proud to say where they have come from and the door is always left open – so we often see them back for the odd training session.

Swim tough to all those racing!
