West Norfolk Open
May has been a really busy month for the swimmers and coaches alike with several meets taking place. To round the month off we took a squad to Kings Lynn for the West Norfolk Open. This is always a great day and everyone has a lot of fun. I am pleased to report that we retained best visiting club and well done to Henry Pearce who got top boy. We also had a large medal haul across the team so well done to all who took part. This is a really great meet to cut your teeth on so if you have a more novice swimmer pencil this in your diary for next year.
We have just returned from a fab trip to Lignano in Italy where we took 22 selected swimmers to train. This was a great opportunity for them all to train in a 50m pool and I have to say they all worked exceptionally hard. John put together some tough sets and both him and Gavin really pushed the swimmers to give it their all. They trained for 2 sets (each set 2 hrs long – one or two were 2.5hrs!!!) a day and land training in between – tough by anyone’s standards. We did though manage to fit in a couple of trips to the beach, a visit to the waterpark (where else would they rather spend their downtime than in the water) and an entertaining Hawaiian evening. Diaries of our time away are available on the piranhas website should you wish to know more.
It is always a little daunting taking that many swimmers away especially overseas and you do worry if they will be homesick or will they all behave. This was an amazing group to take away, they were brilliantly well behaved and polite and we were complimented wherever we went. They all took care of each other, worked hard and played hard. I know that John, Sue and Gavin will join me when I say how proud we were of them all.
JFL & Cambs Cup
We have the Junior Fenland League on the 21st June at Whittlesey and the Cambridge Cup on the 22nd June. Team sheets for both these events are on the notice board and selected swimmers have also been emailed. Please let us know as soon as you can if your swimmer is available or not. There will be a separate relay training session for those competing in the Cambs Cup.
If your swimmer has been invited to attend the Coventry sprint meet in September and they would like to enter please remember to hand in your completed form and payment by July.
