The new term has started, the pool is full, and the coaching team is refreshed and raring to start the next cycle. The first event was on Saturday night with the inaugural party for swimmers, managed and run by Gavin, Sue and Lou. Our thanks to them for giving us a night off. I bet that’s not what it felt like for you guys! I hear great reports, so thanks for all the hard work giving the kids a great night.
Over the bank holiday Amy and Emma Leslie with Poppy and Mia Leech ran a sponsored 12 hour trampoline bounce at the Leslie’s house. They were joined by other swimmers and their parents and it turned in to a fabulous day, with no rain and more importantly no injuries.
Special thanks should go to the girls for organising the event, all the swimmers who participated, Pete and Belinda for hosting the event and Keith and Tracy Phillips for generously covering the cost of the barbecue for the whole event. because of these people’s generosity the girls have donated every penny they raised which was a terrific £350!
On top of that Sue Pearce had arranged for us to have a green disc slot at Waitrose in July which was also very successful. This raised a little over £300 too, and Gavin tells me there may be some financial surplus from Saturday’s party (although this was never the objective).
If you want to know why fund raising is important for us, why not come along to the AGM on Monday 16th September – more details at the bottom of this Blackline.
Swimming through to Christmas is focused on Junior Fenland League finals, County Development Championships and a few other meetings dotted here and there. The next few weeks will focus on building up speed ahead of the Coventry Sprint gala in two weeks time, for which we have a great turn out.
Sadly Coventry clashes with Senior Fenland League, which we will miss as it is logistically too challenging to get two squads in two different places on the same day. The Sprint Gala, though, is a long course event with each competitor swimming 50m of each stroke. The fastest eight – on cumulative time across all strokes – race a 200 IM.
I would like to encourage as many parents along to the AGM as possible please, it is on Monday 16th at 7.30pm at the Stukeley Country Hotel. Anyone is welcome and we hope that you will find attendance of value as many topics that get raised during the year are covered at the AGM. If you have a general interest, a point you’d like to make, or if you’d like a position on the Committee please come along and contribute to the meeting.
The next round of club champs is on 17 September – lists will be up this week.
That’s it for now as there isn’t too much news, but all the news there is is good!
